Product description

The aircraft carrier Foch (visual indicator R 99) was the sister ship of the Clemenceau. It was the second warship named in honor of Marshal Ferdinand Foch who had nevertheless declared: "Airplanes […] have no military value". The Foch, put on hold in February 1957, was built at the Atlantic shipyards of Saint Nazaire and put into service on July 15, 1963. Landings were carried out on the 165 m oblique runway fitted with 4 stop strands. The two 50 m steam catapults allowed 15/20 ton planes to take off at 110 knots. The 2 elevators could raise a 15 ton aircraft to 8.50 m in 9 seconds. Between 1980 and 1981, it will undergo an IPER (Periodic unavailability for maintenance and repair) which will equip it with a naval operating system for tactical information, an inertia unit for resetting the aircraft platform before catapulting. , missile bunkers for AM-39 Exocet missiles and tactical nuclear weapons. It will thus be able to accommodate 4 or 5 AN-52 then the ASMP6 missile. After a 37-year career in the French Navy, she was sold on November 15, 2000 to the Brazilian Navy, which finally disarmed her in November 2018 and she was scrapped in 2019
